Bienvenue, Bem vindo, Bienvenido, Wilkomerson, Welcome to my MPH Electronic Portfolio After studying for long hours during three consecutive years and having been intellectually challenged by an eclectic and rich academic curriculum in the Health Education Department, I am honored to receive my Master of Public Health from San Francisco State University in 2007. The present electronic portolio illustrates the various areas in the Public Health field that captivated my attention. As an opinionated and argumentative social justice activist, I am committed to deepen my understanding on the social determinants of health disparities and environmental injustice inside and outside the USA. As an African woman, I embrace the fact that HIV and AIDS constitute the modern and ramping plague in the continent, leaving our children fatherless and motherless. As woman of color, polyglot, with a Brazilian and a French cultural heritage and background, I intend to dedicate my life as a health educator to contribute alleviating, if not lowering these health disparities with a necessary cultural sensitivity wherever I go. I am and will always be a citizen of the world ready to embark in a new journey to promote healthy eating habits among youth in the USA, to prevent the spread of HIV among the Pygmies in the Equatorial Forest, to prevent the escalation of violence inside and outside the boundaries of the favelas in Rio de Janeiro or to encourage physical exercise in Paris as a possible solution to decrease high stress level and isolation. Alone, I may have a voice. With partners, we not only have a voice; we can be agents of change through our action. I will always be available to elaborate more about my work and some of my innovative ideas in the local, national and especially global public health realm. For a variety of projects on critical public health issues throughout my academic journey, click on the Culminating MPH Poject tab, then click into the MPH Competencies one. It will lead you to seven different areas of work concentration. For each competency, there are three difference tabs: the introductory section (reflective statement), the summary on the final report, then the related seminars that I attended regarding that specific competency. |
